Greetings and Welcome to the Shire of Boisdarc Website. We currently cover most of Southeast Kansas. More specifically the counties of: Cherokee, Labette, Montgumery, Chautauqua, Crawford, Neosho, Wlson, Elk, Burbon, Allen, Woodson, and Greenwood. Bois D'Arc was founded in October of A.S. XVI, when Susannah Griffon was introduced to John de MontForet and Gareth of Deerhaven by the Midrealm Seneschal. John and Gareth had been working to raise interest in a shire in their area, and Susannah had been doing the same not far away, so it was suggested that the two groups might be better off combining forces to achieve their end. The first meeting produced a happy meeting of minds, and a decision to proceed as fast as possible to create a shire composed of peoples from all the lands immediately adjacent ot the homes of the founding members. It was decided to stage an event in the following March, at which they would petition for a charter to establish a shire, and to begin the process of acquiring a name and device. Other meetings followed, at which the name Bois D'Arc was chosen, a device was designed, and details of the first event, to be called THE RITES OF SPRING, were ironed out, and the event was finally held in March of A.S. XVII, where Prince Ternon granted the shires charter. Since that date, the shire has grown and flourished, suffered setbacks occasionally as worthwhile gentles moved in and out of the shire, and has continued to provide a unique style and manner to events of the Kingdom, and the SCA for the last 20 or more years.
